My proposal to mummify the artworks stems from the realization that many of them are already wrapped. These wrappings act as a kind of protective shell a contemporary form of mummification prepared to face a future where sea levels might rise. I envision this scenario, so I seal each piece, adding cloves to ward off moths and protect against moisture and, as much as possible, fungi. It is an act of preservation, but also of anticipation.
The photos feature books on Hilma and Nise, along with one I found at the Royal College. All three engage directly with the painting currently in progress, Combustão em Cadência (Combustion in Cadence), which will undergo its own mummification later on. They are references that fuel the work and the narrative surrounding it.
