This sculpture belongs to the set of seven Three-Dimensional Forms of the Serpent Language, created in Lisbon in February 2020 — a foreshadowing of the planetary transformation that would come with the global lockdown.

This specific symbol evokes solar and telluric energy — the light radiating from the Sun and the heat pulsing from the magma at the center of the Earth. A geometry of care, radiation, and the understanding of cycles in relation to energetic and symbolic centers of power.

The piece was made with natural pigments that reference culinary fire — turmeric, piripiri, and cinnamon — evoking medicinal, sensory, and ancestral knowledge. The surface of the ceramic acts as a vibratory membrane between visible and invisible realms, operating as sigil, altar, and energetic capsule.

Part of a ceramic sculptural cycle initiated in Portugal during the pandemic, when I was isolated in the city of Porto, and further developed during a residency (Air351) with the support of the Artistic Research Grant from the Gulbenkian Foundation. The cycle has also been presented in the exhibitions Magma (Galeria Nuno Centeno, Porto) and Architecture of Silence (Bikaner House, New Delhi) in 2022, alongside research into symbolic and sustainable practices.

The piece is currently located in Porto, in what used to be my former studio in the Mota Galiza buildings.
